Three Must-Try Summer Activities in Ontario, California

Nestled between the coast and the mountains, Ontario is a city packed with adventure and summer fun. According to VisitCalifornia.com, “The Greater Ontario area hosts some of the very best in extreme sports, quiet retreats and spas and is home to some of California’s ultimate shopping and dining opportunities.”

With mountain trails, parks, and local sites, Ontario has unique summer activities all its own. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Ontario, CA.

Hike Etiwanda Falls Trail in the North Etiwanda Preserve

You’ll find some of the best hiking in Ontario, CA, at the North Etiwanda Preserve. The Etiwanda Falls Trail is a 3.4-mile out-and-back trail that beginners will find rewarding but not overly challenging. The preserve is home to beautiful flora and fauna native to California, and the elevation gain over the course of the hike earns the hiker beautiful views of the foothills and surrounding area.

The parking lot can get crowded, but getting there early in the morning or during weekdays makes parking a nonissue. Morning is also a great time to hike if you prefer to avoid the midday heat. There aren’t many trees or other sources of shade, so pack and dress accordingly .

Spend the Day at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park

This 150-acre park is a local favorite. Just minutes from LA/Ontario International Airport, Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park serves as a natural retreat for Ontario residents, visitors, and wildlife. It has a swimming facility, two lakes, a splash pad for children, covered areas, barbeque grills, and plenty of ducks.

Visitors can rent paddle boats, canoes, and kayaks to take out on the lake or bring their own. Fishing is permitted in both lakes with a valid CA state fishing license, and both lakes are stocked every Thursday with fresh trout and catfish, making it a popular location for fishermen. Seasonal fishing tournaments are also held, making it a regular crowd-pleaser.

This park is a great place for one of our favorite summer activities in Ontario, CA: outdoor BBQ! The park has several BBQ grills available for visitors to use, but you’re also free to bring your own. There’s nothing better than grilling up some burgers and hotdogs on a summer evening.

Visit the Planes of Fame Air Museum

Located just south of Ontario, CA, this air museum hosts a large collection of fighter planes from world wars as well as other rare and priceless pieces of aviation history. The museum’s collection is now approaching 160 individual aircraft! In addition to displaying its impressive collection of aircraft, Planes of Fame Air Museum also rents out some of its planes for flying demonstrations, military open houses, and filming for movies and television.

If you’re looking for summer activities in Ontario, California, look no further. The Planes of Fame Aircraft Museum is the perfect place to escape the sun and get up close and personal with historic planes!
